The U19 (B) Jr. Shamrocks got off to a slow start early Friday morning in their opening game of the Massachusetts State Tier II Championship Tournament against the North Shore Vipers at the New England Sports Center in Marlboro, Mass. The second and third periods saw a good back and forth defensive battle. The only goal of the game was scored in the second period by Jr. Shamrocks forward Courtney Smith assisted by Alyssa King and Samantha Barrett. Goalie Holly Scott stopped all shots she faced to preserve the 1-0 shutout for the Jr. Shamrocks.

The U19 (B) Jr. Shamrocks then faced the Charles River Blazers later Friday evening in their second State Tier II Championship Tournament game in a very exciting edge of your seat nail bitter in which both teams battled hard for the entire game. The Jr. Shamrocks scored first on a goal by Kaitlyn Morse, assisted by Shannon Hickey, with only 52 seconds remaining in the first period.

Charles River scored the only goal of the second period to tie the game at 1-1. Shannon Hickey scored the eventual game winner for the Jr. Shamrocks with five minutes remaining in the game. The third time was the charm for the Jr. Shamrocks as they defeated the Blazers 2-1. The two team had met twice early this season resulting in a 0-0 tie and a win for Charles River.

For their third game of the State Tier II Championship Tournament the Jr. Shamrocks will face the host team, the Minuteman Flames, Saturday morning at 9:30 am at the New England Sports Center. A win should guarantee the Jr. Shamrocks a spot in the quarterfinals of the Massachusetts Tier II Championship being played Saturday night. The semifinals and State Championship games will be played on Sunday.
