U19 Jr. Shamrocks Three-Peat As Cape Cod Storm Pre-Season Tournament Champions

For the third straight year the Boston Jr. Shamrocks U19 team opened their season by winning the Cape Cod Storm Pre-Season Tournament held in Falmouth, Mass.

The Jr. Shamrocks began tournament play Saturday morning squaring off against the host team, Cape Cod Storm. The Shamrocks had a strong performance and won the game 3 -0. Cassidy Connolly and Lily Mallard led the way with a goal and an assist each. Jenna Bragalone had two assists and Marissa Gregory iced the game with a breakaway goal in the third period.  Goalies Marina Mirabella and Kasey Libby combined for the shutout.

In the second game of the day the Shamrocks played the South Shore Conquistadors in a tight, high-scoring game that the Shamrocks won 5--4. Scoring came from five different players highlighting the team effort that it took to pull this one off.

On Sunday morning the Shamrocks faced a tough, talented team in the New England Pride. In a terrific game that went back and forth from start to finish the Shamrocks displayed fortitude, toughness and togetherness from the goal out. Georgie Santullo and Erin O'Brien led the way with a goal and an assist each and the Shamrocks earned a 2-2 tie. The tie assured each team a trip to the finals and a rematch on Sunday afternoon.

The finals between the Shamrocks and Pride picked up right where the first game of the day left off.  Showcasing two gritty and determined teams battling hard from start to finish.  Shamrocks goalie Mirabella made a number of great saves in the first period to keep the game scoreless. The Shamrocks opened the scoring in the second period on a beautiful power-play goal scored by Gregory and assisted by Bragalone. The lead held up until the 8:27 mark of the third period when the Pride got on the board. The game remained tied through the end of regulation and through a five-minute four-on-four overtime period leading to a shootout to determine the winner and Tournament champion.

In the shootout, the Shamrocks got goals from Gregory and Erin O'Brien while Shamrocks goalie Libby stopped two out of three Pride shots to lock up the game and the third consecutive tournament championship for the U19 Jr. Shamrocks.
